First, we need to celebrate the report this morning that almost everyone said that they got a good night sleep and that the jet lag did not impede their getting some solid sleep last night.  What troopers we have!!!
This morning we walked from the hotel to the BSD office to begin the day with a breakfast meeting.  Even though we just stayed for the time to have breakfast and meet some folks from the Island School (we will spend more time with them later this week), we headed out about 9:30 to ride the tram, to the bus station to board a tour bus that took us around the northern section of Hong Kong Island and then head over to Kowloon.
It pretty much rained throughout the day but it never seemed to dampen our enthusiasm for all that we saw today.  The umbrellas that were in each of the backpacks that were gifted to us by BSD yesterday came in very handy.  We also got kleenex tissues and hand sanitizer and a water bottle in the backpacks.
The bus tour gave us a nice overview of the area and we saw a great deal of the plant market from the top of our tour bus.  Given the heavy rain, we changed up our plans and took in a 9 floor shopping mall located in northern Kowloon this morning.  It was quite the experience.  We also had luncheon reservations for dim sum.  We all agreed that it could be the best meal we have had since we got here.  There were platters and platters of beautiful, handmade items that included vegetables, pork, prawns, chicken, sausage, fish, and dumplings of every color under the sun.
But the next treat was to walk off our huge lunch by exploring the computer market.  That gave us a little taste of some of the things we are likely to see in Shenzen on Thursday.
We we completed the exploration around the computer market, another member of BSD joined in the fun and took us to the Nike
flagship store for the 50% off sale.  There were several purchased... but given that it was Nike, they still weren't free.  And then, the hit of the day was the Ladies' Market which is not for just ladies at all.
This is an open air market that stretched on and on for blocks.  They sold everything under the sun....and a few things I would only expect to come out at night!!!!
Then, we were able to explore the Hong Kong subway system to get back to BSD and then back to our hotel for a clean up and rest before dinner.
Tonight will be Moroccan.  And while none of our students could remember having cuisine from this country, they all took it in stride and thought it sounded interesting.
To those who are actually reading these little journal entries which summarize the day, I want to apologize for not having any pictures included in these posts.  Something has happened to my laptop and I am working from a screen that only has Chinese toolbars.  So I have had to work entirely from memory as to how I write these posts up and then publish them.  Neither BSD folks nor our American counterparts seem to be able to help settle this difficulty as yet.  But once it is fixed, I hope to be adding a bit of visual enhancement in the form of pictures that we have been taking of our experiences.
Last minute addition before publishing this post.  Dinner last night was extra-ordinary.  Looking much like a Moroccan tent in the desert with hanging pierced lanterns and lots of north African music going, our students ordered everything from lamb to cous cous to tagine and vegetables.  But even more surprising than seeing a consumption like the locusts in Israel was to listen to the table conversation of our students with our hosts about Brexit, the 2047 anniversary in Hong Kong and whether mainland China will allow independence and then to the politics of  Taiwan and then back to college plans.  I just sat back and watched in awe and smiled with great pride for I can see for the first time, in real time, how successful these students will be once they are in the world of employment.
